Porcine Parvovirus Ab. ELISA
Porcine Parvovirus (PPV) is a small single-stranded DNA virus belonging to the Parvoviridae family. The virus is an ubiquitous infectious pig agent. PPV causes infectious reproductive failures in pig herds and is of economic concern to pig breeders worldwide. The virus is capable of crossing the placenta. The effect of an infection of a pregnant sow depends on the stage of gestation at which infection occurs. Infection during the first two trimesters of gestation can lead to abortion, fetal immunization and stillborn piglets. Infection during the last trimester of gestation, when fetuses are immunocompetent, usually results in the birth of healthy, serologically positive piglets. |
